Microchipping to Bring your Lost Pet Home
It can happen in an instant to even the most careful of pet owners—your dog or cat slips out the door and is nowhere to be found. Few things are more heart-wrenching than wondering where your pet is and not knowing if he will ever come home.
We offer the Avid microchip to help bring your pet home safely even when their collar and ID tags break or fall off. This tiny pellet is injected under the skin between the dog or cat’s shoulder blades. The chip is programmed with your contact information and is connected to the Avid database. When someone finds your pet and uses a device to scan for a chip, that person is given Avid’s contact information, and Avid then contacts you.
Health Certificates for Travel
Did you know that you might need special documents when traveling with your pet? When planning a trip with your pet you should always investigate your destination’s requirements, which might, for example, include proof of an up-to-date rabies vaccine and/or microchips. Once you learn what’s required, our staff will be happy to provide you with the vaccines/microchipping and certificates you need.
In-House Pharmacy
Our in-house pharmacy allows you to get your pet’s medicines right here in the hospital. For your convenience, refills may be ordered online.
Hospice Care
Just as it does for people, Hospice care for pets aims to provide the best possible quality of life for every precious moment your pet has left to spend with you. We are committed to helping you keep your pet as comfortable and mobile as possible and making sure he is eating and drinking enough to maintain proper nutrition and hydration.
If hospitalization is required, your pet will be treated with loving care. IV fluids will be given to ensure proper hydration. All needed medications will be administered, and the staff will make certain that your pet is eating enough to remain comfortable, all while providing extra doses of love and affection.
Euthanasia Services
We understand that the decision to euthanize a beloved pet is a difficult and painful one. We also understand that after all other options have been discussed, providing your pet with a painless, stress-free, and dignified way to leave this earth is among the most precious gifts you can give them.
When the time comes, we will schedule an appointment for an in-depth discussion of all options and not proceed with euthanasia unless all involved agree that this is what’s best for your pet.
It is a top priority of the entire Medical Center staff to ensure that every euthanasia is as comfortable, painless, and stress-free as possible. Your pet will be given a sedative and then an IV through which the euthanasia medications are administered. We welcome you to remain with and comfort your pet and stay as long as needed to say your final goodbyes during this time.
Post-Euthanasia Arrangements
Prior to euthanasia, you and your vet will discuss the options available, which include:
- Taking your pet home for burial with a provided cardboard casket
- Cremation, with your pet’s ashes, left at our Center or returned to you during a private appointment
In Memoriam
Among the ways to pay tribute to your pet are:
- A variety of urns that can be specially designed and personalized
- Memory necklaces
- Personalized paw prints pressed in clay
